You're Built Different to Build Different
You may have “shortcomings,” but you’re still the exception
#014
Many of us are overwhelmed by the gap between who we are and who we have the potential to be. It can be so intimidating that we get stuck feeling unqualified to answer our loudest callings. We allow our so-called “short-comings” to stop us.
We hear the whispers, we catch the signs and our daydreams are clear as day but, sometimes they come with a mirror. That mirror reflects back all the reasons we believe we can’t. It shows what we lack, our past that makes that thing less likely, the connections we don’t have, the degrees we didn’t get, the rooms we don’t have access to.
It’s a lot.
But, what if we believed for some time that life will have a way of using our “disqualifications” for good. Take Ava DuVernay and Emma Grede…
They were drawn a specific set of cards that made there likely hood of building their type of life unlikely. Ava and Emma didn’t have the “right” qualifications. Ava didn’t go to film school. Emma didn’t finish college. Yet and still, they persist.
From their stories we can see how their so-called shortcomings carried power. In hindsight of course. Their paths became a testimony that the very things that could’ve (and probably did at some point) make them feel unqualified could become a key part of why they are uniquely destined for their works on earth.
This note is to remind you to not be shy about your disqualifications. They don’t disqualify your purpose or calling.
Our so-called shortcomings grow us. By embracing them, we can be led on an amazing self-actualization journey. Our “shortcomings” give us unique perspective because we see things through a different lens, and that can lead to some of the most incredible results shifts in culture. They make us relatable. Our messy middles just might end up being the encouragement someone else needs to keep going, like Ava and Emma are for me. Then, one day our stories could serve as a source of hope for someone who has tried to count themselves out because of their 'disqualifications.' Notice the cycle?
What are you currently hoping for that on paper you are disqualified for? Think about this things then remember, God built you different to build different and that’s exactly what someone needs to witness.
Keep going.
